IsoBots: The Origin: Chapter 2

Finally, we’re here… said Ken as he shut off the engine.

The two looked at each other and could only offer a sigh of relief.

The doctor put on his gloves and took a breath so deep you’d think it was his last.

As he stepped out of the truck, he planted his boots on the crunchy snow. Calibrating the only radio scanner that they had left.

Swiveling around, Dr. M and his assistant watched for any sudden movements.

“Looks clear” said Ken, as he and the Doctor started to slowly approach the large, iron doors that barricaded the last IsoCom research facility.

“Are you sure we should be here? There’s no way their system can catch us?”

“Don’t worry. All security functions went offline as of last year.” replied Dr. M.

Both could only wonder what was left in that building — and worse, who might have found it.

“All that data and information. You’d think they’d store it somewhere. Like, forever.” Said Ken.

“Nowhere too obvious.” replied the Doctor. “Even on-chain it’s too risky. They’re ghosts. Untraceable.”

Connecting his phone to the system’s control unit, Ken typed in the PIN.

290823 — Dr. M’s graduation date.

You could cut the tension with a knife.

But no one made a sound. Pure silence.

The Doctor held his breath until the sounds of the rusty metal teeth clashed against each other — roaring through the mountains.

While the doors opened ever-so slowly, Ken asked: “Think we got it?”

“Only one way to find out, I guess”. said Dr. M

There was nothing to see in that abandoned lab. Not even your own shadow.

As the doors crept open, the pitch-black cavern was suddenly filled by a flickering, neon light.

“Is that-? I thought you were the last one here.” said Ken.

Stepping his foot through the door, the Doctor turned on his flashlight & replied:

“So did I”.
