[Chapter 06] record-IP.49.93

The latches of the door closed in a thud.

1014 jumped off the roof into the N.O.V.A building just before the helicopters began flashing their lights on the roof.

It was dark. One laptop was lit with the N.O.V.A login screen, and the lights were flickering in the storage closet nearby”.

1014 called out “hello?”

“Whoever you are, thanks for helping”

“No problem.’

“I didn’t get your name” said Dr. M

“They called me 1014. For my head plate number”

“Well 1014 can I offer you a drink? Water, coffee?”

“I’m a robot, doctor.” Said 1014.

“Right.”

“Anyway, I’m glad I could find you before they did.

You’re not like the rest of the IsoBots… how’d you bypass the orders?

“What orders?” Replied 1014.

The sound of helicopters waned, making it quiet for the first time since 1014 jumped down the vents into Dr. M’s makeshift lab.

“When IsoCorp lost the data and everything in this city went offline. Your inputs haven’t changed?” asked Dr. M.

“Never. The day they all went offline I was in a separate lab being worked on by some visiting doctor from Japan, but they never uploaded notes or changed anything.”

“I haven’t been able to locate any of the information they’ve uploaded to the servers. Must have been scraped when they left.” said 1014.

The two stared at the screen trying to figure out why 1014 was able to withstand the update.

“I pretty much designed you, I should know why you’re not being impacted.”

“Let me see what’s going on here. Come sit by my desk we can take a look together” said Dr. M

As they scan the BIOS settings, neither of them could identify what was causing the difference, it was almost like a miracle.

“You’re not going to like this” said Dr. M.

“Like what?” Replied 1014.

“I’m going to need to plug you into my machine if we really want to figure this out.”

“It’ll be quick”.

The two sat at the desk as Dr. M got the cables out.

“Here goes nothing”.
